Laboratory glass water stills

Are crucial equipment for obtaining pure, distilled water in scientific environments. At Pobel, we offer a range of glass stills designed to meet the needs of the laboratory.

What are laboratory glass stills?

Laboratory glass stills are devices used to purify water through the process of distillation. This process involves heating water until it becomes a vapour and then condensing it back into liquid form, removing impurities and contaminants. In this type of water stilss, the boiler (where the water is heated), the cooler (where the water is condensed) and the level (determines the water level inside the boiler) are made of borosilicate glass 3.3. These devices are essential for producing high purity water needed in numerous scientific procedures and experiments.

What are laboratory glass stills used for? Uses of laboratory glass water stills

Laboratory glassware distillers have many essential uses:

  • Solution preparation: used to obtain pure water needed to prepare precise chemical solutions.
  • Equipment cleaning: distilled water is crucial for cleaning laboratory instruments to avoid contamination.
  • Analysis and experiments: provide water free of contaminants that could interfere with experiments and analysis.
  • Reagent production: necessary for the production of reagents that require high purity water.

What material are Pobel glass water stills made of?

All Pobel glass distillers are composed of 3.3 borosilicate glass boilers, coolers and levels, resistors protected by quartz sheaths or stainless steel metal resistors (depending on the model), epoxy painted steel metal bases and silicone connecting tubes.

How are laboratory glass water stills used?

Depending on the model, our water stills have different levels of automation and can be classified into semi-automatic and automatic models. Automatic water stills are those that work with total autonomy during the whole distillation process: they switch off when the storage vessel is filled with distilled water, restarting their activity when the stored water is used up. Semi-automatic distillers shut down for safety reasons when the water flow into the distiller is insufficient and it is up to the user to shut down the distiller when he/she considers it necessary.

Types of glass laboratory distillers from Pobel

The following are the models of Pobel glass distillers:

700 Series - Water still models 710 and 720 - 4 litres/hour.

  • Series of semi-automatic and continuous production distillers. High quality distillation with high purity result, free of metal ions and pyrogenic substances.
  • Safety mechanism which switches off the heating element when the cooling water flow rate decreases and switches on again when the cooling water flow rate increases.
  • Glass parts made of borosilicate glass 3.3, and heating element protected by a quartz sheath. Small dimensions for easy handling and cleaning, with a wall mounting bracket.
  • While the 710 model has a vertical coolant, the 720 model has a horizontal coolant with a slightly larger cooling surface. The horizontal cooler is slightly smaller than the 710 model.

Water still model 804 - 4 litres/hour

  • Semi-automatic table-top distiller with vertical design and reduced volume.
  • Borosilicate glass 3.3 parts and metal heating elements. High distillation quality with high purity and practically free of metal ions, salts, dissolved gases and pyrogenic substances.
  • Safety mechanism that switches off the heating element when the cooling water flow rate decreases and switches on again when the cooling water flow rate decreases. It has a level switch as protection against low water level in the boiler, to avoid high temperatures that could be caused without heat dissipation in the water.

811 Series - Water still model 811811 - 9 litres/hour

  • Automatic table-top distiller with vertical design.
  • Borosilicate glass 3.3 parts and metal heating elements. High quality distillation with high purity results, practically free of metal ions, salts, dissolved gases and pyrogenic substances.
  • Safety mechanism that switches off the heating elements when the cooling water flow rate decreases and switches on again when the cooling water flow rate increases. It has a level switch as protection against low water level in the boiler, to avoid high temperatures that could be caused without heat dissipation in the water.
  • This model incorporates a filling probe which acts as a water level sensor when placed in an external water tank, automatically controlling the filling of the tank.

811 Series - Water still model 811813 - 12 litres/hour

This model is the three-phase version of model 811811, being able to achieve a higher production of water per hour (around 12 litres/hour).

HYDRO Series - Water still model Hydro - Available in 4 and 8 litres/hour

A series of fully automatic distillers designed in the form of a cabin with a translucent coloured display that allows visualisation of the distillation and is easily removable to ensure accessibility to the interior of the unit.

A safety mechanism switches off the heating elements when the cooling water pressure drops and switches them back on again when the pressure is restored. All HYDRO models are fitted with a wall-mounting bracket.

All models in this series incorporate a filling probe that acts as a water level sensor when placed in an external water tank, automatically controlling the filling of the tank.

The HYDRO model is available in 4 and 8 litres/hour.

HYDRO Series - Bi-Hydro Water Still - 4 litres/hour

  • This model of the HYDRO series is special because it is a bi-distiller, i.e. it produces double distilled water of superior quality.
  • The distilled water produced by this model has a conductivity 20C [µS/cm], under optimum conditions, less than 0.5 µS/cm.
